Hi,

Does anyone know of a law office that aids people in the recovery of money that is being withheld from them by a company such as Verizon? I've heard of ones that assist in getting money from employers, insurance companies, and Social Security, but not a phone company. Verizon is withholding money that is mine and that I desperately need, and I plan on fighting them with everything I have! Any help would be very, very much appreciated. Thanks.

Oh, good luck, but I am very doubtful that they, or the lawyers, will see it that way.
Can you prove they are holding the money unlawfully?
Mind you, if it is a couple of hundred dollars I am very pesimistic you will get anything out of it, you can try some consumer organzation and discuss the case, but a lawyer will cost thousands, going to court is expensive, and sometimes one just has to realize one's losses and move on.
Mind, I don't mean to be negative, but I can't imagine that they have more than 500 dollars of your money and no court will consider anything that small as grounds for law suit unless it is a class action and then you better find tons of people with exactly the same kind of customer treatment.
I find,in general, when you sign a phone contract, as you must have done, you sign away all your rights and the company always has the upper hand, sadly.

They've admitted that the problem is an error in their system. But this has been going on for a couple of months now, and their error is not my fault and something that they should've fixed by now. It is about a couple hundred, but it's a couple hundred that I need to live on for the next couple of weeks. I know I'll have to find free legal assistance. Thanks for the suggestion about class action; I'm going to see if that will be possible.

File a report with the BBB. on the verizon website, there is a link to the BBB stating that they are BBB certifyed, I personally had a major problem with verizon and their billing, and when I filed a complaint through the BBB link on their site it was resolved within a week.
Be very factual in your complaint, and when the business office calls you, be very specific as to what your grevance is.

If they return the money it will be in the form of a credit, no cash. The poster that told you if its a small amount like 200 you'll pay out much more getting it back. If it's truly there fault and they have said so get billing on the phone and simply stay with them "nicely" no hollaring until you get it back, but again it will be a credit for services not a cash refund. Here is the rule. Always look at your bill before you pay it. The company has more money then you do and will not cut services right away if you are working on a billing issue. Even if you pay a parshal amount then you are better off with your money then they are. If you order a product try to get it billed, because if you pay for it then your refund is usually a credit not cash.

look into the FTC. They deal with unathorized charges/problems like yours. I wish I knew the link to file a consumer report... I'll look into it and post it here if I can find it. These companies are going downhill by the minute, and I really support and understand what you are going through. Good luck and I hope justice will come your way! :)
